Personal Profile

Zaid Steele, originally from Kansas City, Missouri, is a visionary who uses her presence and creative skill set to motivate, inspire, and lead. Her journey began early, rooted in both discipline and expression. By the third grade, she had already learned to play the piano, violin, and cello laying a foundation in the arts that would shape her creative direction.

Her passion for storytelling deepened through her involvement in the ACE Acting Program, where she performed in numerous plays and short films produced for her school district. These early experiences allowed her to understand the power of performance, voice, and visual narrative.

As she transitioned into her teenage years, Zaid shifted her focus and joined the debate team at Raytown South High School. It was there that her perspective expanded. Debate introduced her to politics, critical thinking, and the importance of informed dialogue. Reflecting on that time, she shares, “Before joining the Raytown South debate team, I hated to read.” That transformation marked a turning point one that would guide her future.

After graduating high school, Zaid continued her academic journey at Shaw University in Raleigh,North Carolina. She pursued a degree in Mass Communication with minors in Psychology and Political Science. These disciplines, when combined, gave her a well-rounded understanding of people, messaging, and influence helping her define her path forward.

During her time in North Carolina, Zaid worked with the North Carolina Environmental organization, where she gained insight into how elected officials communicate with their constituents. This experience opened doors for her to work within the North Carolina General Assembly and later at the United States Capitol, further strengthening her understanding of leadership and public service.

While in undergrad, Zaid served as a communications photographer for Shaw University, capturing moments that reflected the spirit and voice of the institution. During her junior and senior years, she also hosted the Shaw University Bear Cave Podcast, creating a platform to speak directly to students and amplify their experiences.

Her creative work continued to expand through film. She contributed to three short films: FOMO as director, The Heart of Raleigh as sound director, and The Barbershop as assistant director each project reflecting her versatility and commitment to storytelling.

In her senior year, Zaid was elected President of the Student Government Association, a role that allowed her to lead, advocate, and represent the student body with purpose and integrity.

Today, Zaid Steele continues to move forward with intention building, creating, and serving. Through her work, she remains committed to uplifting her community and using her voice to advocate for those who deserve to be seen, heard, and valued.
